Win number five

Win number five. This last weekend The Astronomer's Sun took joint win at the Santa Fe Film Festival, NM, USA.

The jury liked the cinematic feel of the film. The unity of color design. The attention to the sound design and as in New York the bear, with questions over whether he'd be coming back.
As part of the festival the film played in touring venues and in a series of art galleries including Chuck Jones notching up 20 individual screenings during the festival ending with a Q&A. The film's success was announced at Val Kilmer's NM ranch in beautiful Fall weather.

Back in New York

Peter travelled to New York to see the screening of The Astronomer's Sun as it played the opening night of New York's Imagine Science Film Festival. A week long event dedicated to films with real or imagined science connection. "One of the best venues and screening events I've attended. There was a real buzz and an evening of films all with great concepts or ideas informing their reality." A number of my US family travelled to the festival which coincided with the end of John Lennon's 70th Birthday week making it quite a party.

Art Show

Images from our film appeared in an innovative mobile art show put on as part of the Santa Fe Film Festival. The mobile art bus travelled to different screening venues during the festival as part of the festival's marketing.

Leeds International Film Festival

The Astronomers Sun is screening in the Leeds International Film Festival, playing competition in the Yorkshire Shorts programme and the sister competition; the Best of British – UK Short Film Competition in the wonderful Hyde Park Picture House.

The Astronomers Sun scoops the Silver Blaster!

We were thrilled to accept the audience award at the National Irish Science Fiction Film Awards this weekend. Thanks to the audience in Dublin who made our Irish premiere so special. We've been touched by how The Astronomers Sun has resonated with peoples in Ireland.

The awards host, John Vaughan said,

The Astronomer's Sun runs a gamut of emotions in under six minutes, covering hope, loss, friendship and loyalty... if you don't go "Ahhhhhhh!" at the end of this picture and try to hold back a tear... then there's something wrong with you!

The Golden Blasters (The National Irish Science Fiction Film Awards) is a film festival dedicated to short science fiction, fantasy and horror stories. We aim to bring the best speculative fiction to Octocon and expose more people to the wonderful art of the short film.

Screening in the 2009 Red Stick International Animation Festival, Nov. 10-13, 2010, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Festival venues include the Shaw Center for the Arts, the Manship Theatre, the Louisiana Arts & Science Museum, and the Louisiana Old State Capitol.

Screening in Dublin
